Support Connection Awareness Bracelet
$36.00 - ORDER / PURCHASE INFO

Courtesy of KBK Designs of Shrub Oak, New York, a special "Support Connection Awareness Bracelet" made of fine Swarovski crystal is available for sale, with a portion of the proceeds going to Support Connection.

The bracelet was designed especially for Support Connection by Annette Karlin, daughter of former KBK Designs owners Ron and Phyllis Karlin. It was inspired by the memory of Annette's grandmother who passed away from breast cancer. The bracelet has both pink and teal Swarovski crystals interspersed with small pewter flowers with a remembrance ribbon clasp in pink. It can be ordered as is, or can be changed to include only pink and clear or teal and clear crystals with a ribbon clasp in pink or teal. If there is some other combination of crystals that you would like, KBK Designs new owner, Patty Kohl, would be happy to work with you. It comes in sizes small, medium and large to fit your wrist. This would be a wonderful gift for a special person in your life, or a meaningful gift to yourself.

Bob and Patty Kohl, new owners of KBK Designs generously donate 18% of the sale of all "Support Connection Awareness Bracelets" to Support Connection. In addition, whenever you buy a matching anklet or pocketbook loop, or ANY piece of pink awareness jewelry in their Shrub Oak store, Support Connection will receive a donation of 18% of the sale.

Books

Amy Curran Baker, a Support Connection client and volunteer, has written a book:

Now What? A Patient's Guide to Recovery After Mastectomy
Amy Curran Baker, MaryBeth Brown, Linda Curran, MSN, APRN

Amy Curran Baker Now What? A Patient's Guide to Recovery After MastectomyIn 2008, Amy Curran Baker was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma and opted for bilateral mastectomy with Direct to Implant Reconstruction. Within three weeks of being diagnosed she had a mastectomy and was on the road to recovery. But after the surgery she had a lot of questions, the same that most women will have. As an Occupational Therapist, she knew some of the answers from her own clinical training and experience. But many more came from speaking with other women who had undergone mastectomies, from researching message boards, and a little bit of luck. Although everyone's experience is slightly different depending upon one's individual choice: mastectomy alone or mastectomy with reconstruction; the majority of the information applies to all women who had a mastectomy.

Amy and her co-authors include chapters on key issues all women face including wound management, scar massage, dressing and bathing, emotional recovery, and more. And although mastectomy is frightening, the authors make clear that today's procedure is not what it used to be. The book provides practical information women need after mastectomy and breast reconstruction surgery so they can focus on what matters most: healing and staying well.
